Aberlour piloted a new short breaks service in 2014, supporting children with disabilities across Scotland to access mainstream adventures and experiences while their parents and carers enjoyed a short break.  Aberlour were able to get this up and running through an internal funding competition called the Aberlour EDGE (inspired by the Scottish EDGE)  – the Aberlour EDGE initiative has now developed into a new national pilot, opening up the process to the voluntary sector, called the Social EDGE.  They are now looking to take Options Adventures forward to be available through SDS, Options Adventures will have following characteristics at its core:

  • Focused on inclusion and access to mainstream adventure opportunities
  • Coordinating and budgeting the child’s preferred short break experience.
  • Providing the support staff while ensuring all health and safety standards are met.
  • Core values aligned with Independent Living and Person Centred philosophy.
